Game Licences and Copyright Policy

Last updated:

PokyyGame is a website for free browser games. Every one of those games was made by someone: a studio, a small team, or one developer working on it in their spare time. This game licences and copyright policy explains how we handle game licensing and how we credit the people who make the games. It also explains what to do if you think a game on PokyyGame uses your work without permission.

The short version is simple. We respect the people who make games. If something on the site belongs to you and you are not happy with how it is used, tell us and we will put it right.

Who owns the games on PokyyGame

Some games on PokyyGame are our own. Many others belong to their developers or publishers. A game being playable here does not mean that PokyyGame owns it, or its code, artwork, music, characters or name.

The rights in a game stay with whoever holds them. Our role is to host the game, present it well and let people play it. We do not claim other people's work as our own.

How game licensing works on our site

Before a game goes live on PokyyGame, there has to be a proper basis for us to offer it. In practice that means at least one of these:

  • we made the game ourselves, or paid for it to be made for us;
  • the developer or publisher has given us permission to publish it;
  • the game comes with a licence that allows it to be shared on a website like ours;
  • the game is released under open-source terms that allow this kind of use.

Licences are not all alike. Some allow almost any use. Others rule out commercial use, do not allow changes, or ask for a credit line. For example, many Creative Commons licences allow sharing as long as the creator is credited, and some of them do not allow commercial use.

PokyyGame is free to play and supported by advertising. That is why we look closely at whether a licence allows commercial use, and ads around a game or inside it.

Game developer credits

Credit matters to developers, and it helps players find more of their work. When we know who made a game, the game page names the developer and, where there is one, the publisher. Some licences ask for a particular credit line or a link to the original release. In that case, we add it exactly as the licence asks.

Made a game that is on PokyyGame and your name is missing or wrong? Let us know and we will correct it.

Game distribution permission and its limits

Permission to share a game is never unlimited. The terms that come with it decide what we may do, for example:

  • whether the game may appear on a site that shows advertising;
  • whether we may make small changes to it;
  • whether it may be offered on other websites, apps or our own subdomains;
  • how long the permission lasts, and how either side can end it.

We keep to those limits. If a permission is withdrawn or a licence ends, we take the game down.

Changes we make to games

To make games run well here, we sometimes make small technical changes. For example, we fit a game to phone and tablet screens, stop the page from scrolling while you use the arrow keys, and load every file from our own server so the game starts quickly. These changes only affect how a game runs on PokyyGame. They do not change who made it or who owns it. However, where a licence does not allow changes, we do not make them.

Do you own the rights to a game or other material on PokyyGame, or act for someone who does? If you believe it appears here without permission, or in a way your licence does not allow, please get in touch. Email us at admin@pokyygame.com or use our contact page.

So that we can act quickly, please include:

  • the address (URL) of the game page on PokyyGame;
  • exactly which game, image, sound or other material you mean;
  • your name and how we can reach you;
  • how you are connected to the work, for example as the owner, the developer, the publisher, or someone authorised to act for them;
  • anything that supports your enquiry, such as a link to the original release, a store page or the licence;
  • what you would like us to do: add a credit, change something, or remove the material.

We read every enquiry. When a claim is clear and genuine, we act on it. That can mean adding or fixing a credit, changing how a game is offered, or removing it from the site. If we need more information, we will ask you for it.

Please make sure what you send us is accurate. A mistaken claim can take a game away from players, and from a developer who did nothing wrong.

Names, logos and other third-party rights

Names, logos, characters, artwork, music and sound effects in a game remain the property of their owners. When a game page shows credit or licence details, those details cover only the material they describe. They do not give anyone else the right to use that material.

Game names and logos appear on PokyyGame to identify the games. Showing them does not mean the owner works with us or endorses the site, unless we say so.

For game developers

Do you make browser games and would like to see yours on PokyyGame? We would be glad to hear from you. Tell us about the game and the licence you offer. Also tell us what you need from us, such as a credit or a link back to your own site. Write to admin@pokyygame.com, and have a look at the games already on the site to see how they are presented.

How this policy fits with our other pages

This page works alongside our Terms of Service and our Privacy Policy. If anything here differs from a written agreement we have with a developer or publisher, that agreement comes first.

We may update this page as PokyyGame grows. The date at the top of the page shows when it last changed.
